1846 Lewis Royce sold his stone residence on McHenry st. (near where St. Mary’s High School was later built) in 1846 and built a residence on Chestnut st. (Source: The History of Racine and Kenosha Counties, Wisconsin, 1879, p. 650.) (Note: Royce residence later used as St. Sebastian’s parsonage.)
1847 Gerhard Hidding settled on farm at Brown's lake in 1847, following his return from Germany where he was married. Farm was his home until about 1895, when he moved to Chicago. (Obituary - S 1/2/1897 and S 1/9/1897.)
1850 McDonald family - including Lemuel, George, and Ada - lived on what was known in 1910 as John F. Wegge farm - S 9/16/1910.
Nov. 1851 Cobblestone house at 216 W. Jefferson st. (Hammiller house) from Ephraim Perkins estate to Joseph Tiering / Thering, per notes in Museum files. Late 1851 - Joseph Thering in late 1851 put up a square stone building running it as a store. The parcel was purchased from Janus Hollister of New York and was described as a parcel known as lots 8 and 9 in block 4 of Perkins second addition to the Village of Burlington as surveyed by Moses Vilas; said lots to be fractional lots and to measure 4 rods in width from Lot 10, Block 4, and to run thence from Jefferson to Geneva streets. Dec. 1851 John Heinrich Rueter and John Heinrich Burhans bought lots 7 and 10 in block 4, Perkins Second addition in Dec. 1851; basements were dug in winter of 1852-53; and houses were completed by end of 1854 - Edward B. Rueter paper prepared for Oct. 22, 1973, Historical Society meeting.
1853 Joel Henry Cooper family settled at Spring Prairie in 1845 and moved to Burlington in 1853. (S 12/18/1897 obituary.)
RA 06-08-1853 Henry French offers his dwelling house and 4 lots in village of Burlington for sale.
RA 06-22-1853 Sale of mortgaged premises (2 parcels in section 36 and one in section 31 of Burlington township) by George W. Law - legal notice vs. David L. Wells, Ephraim Perkins, Pliny M. Perkins, William L. Pierce, John Bennett, Martha Perkins, Uriah H. Spencer, Freelove Bennett, Allen Perkins, Sarah Hopkins, Samuel Hopkins, Lydia M. Smith, Benjamin C. Pierce / Perce, Ellen Pierce, Benjamin Wright, Charles Davis and Asa Kinney.
RA 05-01-1854 J. Appleyard advertises 248 acre farm mile and a half from Burlington for sale.
RA 05-01-1854 J. Appleyard advertises lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8 in block 11, and lot 2 in block 53 in Burlington for sale.
RA 12-04-1854 Sheriff's sale of William Toomb's real estate in section 10, town 2 - Burlington, to be held Jan. 22, 1855.
1854 John Frank Rueter home on State st. (formerly Liberty st.) was built in 1854 - Edward B. Rueter paper prepared for Oct. 22, 1973, Historical Society meeting.
1856 House at 241 Milwaukee ave. (formerly Geneva st.), occupied in 1973 by Harry Barbian, was built in 1856 - Edward B. Rueter paper prepared for Oct. 22, 1973, Historical Society meeting.
Late 1850s Home on State st. (formerly Liberty st.) opposite entrance to St. Mary's grade school was built in late 1850s and was purchased in 1868 by Jacob Brehm - Edward B. Rueter paper prepared for Oct. 22, 1973, Historical Society meeting.
Late 1850s Home on corner of Conkey & Lewis sts., occupied by Erna Miller in 1973, was built in late 1850s - Edward B. Rueter paper prepared for Oct. 22, 1973, Historical Society meeting. House built by Mr. Kinsley / Kinzle, per Fran Meurer notes in Museum files.
1857-1863 From 1857 to 1863, the Julius Lueck family's home was the island in Brown's Lake later owned by D. F. Bremner and known as Bremner's island. (S 9/3/1915 and F 11/15/28) Burlington Gazette of June 21, 1859, mentioned island in comments on Brown's lake.
WRA 02-20-1856 For sale: 60 acres near depot of the Western Railroad at Burlington in exchange for City (Racine) property or railroad stock.
WRA 02-20-1856 Tax sale of lands in Racine County for 1855 to be held second Tuesday in April. In village of Burlington, parcels included one or more lots in blocks 22, 24, 27, 31, 35, 41, 42, 51, 52, 58, 59, 63, 66, and 68 of original plat; also land in town of Burlington, with some parcels excepted for railroad purposes. Also in WRA 2/27/1856 and other issues.
WRA 02-27-1856 60 acres fenced and under cultivation lying a quarter to a half mile south of the Burlington depot for sale or can be exchanged for city property - inquire of O. Sheldon or A. P. Dutton.
WRA 05-14-1856 Farm of 211 acres belonging to J. and P. Conkey on road running from Burlington to Milwaukee and about midway between Burlington and Rochester is offered for sale; farm lies on Fox River and also on line of Fox River Valley Rail Road; dwelling house built of stone.
WRA 09-24-1856 Robert Wheeler, on Burlington road in town of Brighton, to offer several animals at auction on October 6.
1857 In 1857, Anton Kipp bought the farm he died on in 1913 - S 10/3/13 obit.
1858 Runzler house at 309 Milwaukee ave. (formerly Geneva st.) was built in 1858 - Edward B. Rueter paper prepared for Oct. 22, 1973, Historical Society meeting.
BG 05-21-1859 About 3 weeks ago, a large frame house belonging to Weinborn, 3 miles south of village, was entirely consumed by fire with nearly all of its contents.
BG 07-28-1859 Mr. Blackburn's house near the depot was entered by burglars.
